This is my first finished project for my first semester of my third year at Gray’s School of Art.

It is a photography documentary project based on Scouting.

When people hear the word ‘Scouts’ they normally think of children, and any adults they might think of are there in a leadership role. This isn’t always the case. I am an assistant Cub Scout leader with a troop in Edinburgh, but as well as this I am a member of the movement myself. I am in the Scout Network (for ages 18 – 25).

This documentary project is a way to show people a different side to the Scouts. Although everyone in these photos are leaders, when we go to the Summer Camp these photos were taken at we don’t go just as leaders. We go to have a good time ourselves, to see friends we haven’t seen in a year and enjoy ourselves, as well as providing a fun camp for the Scouts. We get to take part in the fun activities that we put on for the children and we get to have a week away from everything with some of our best friends (well in my case anyway!).

I am very happy with this project as photography is something I enjoy very much so it was great to be able to do a photography project.
