Penguin Student Design Awards 2018
As part of my first semester of my third year at university, I have completed a project for the Penguin Student Design Awards 2018.
This involved design book covers for 3 different books. This year's books were:
Adult Fiction - Animal Farm by George Orwell

For this cover, I wanted to create an elegant, minimalistic and classic cover design as this book is a classic and one of the greats.
I was inspired by special covers of the Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkein.
Adult Non-Fiction - A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes by Stephen Hawking

For this cover, I wanted to produce an elegant cover with a few images and patterns of and inspired by space, all layered on top of each other to create one large space image with simple type on top.
I am very happy with this cover and it is my favorite of the three I have produced.
Children's Fiction - Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman

My original thoughts for this cover were to stay away from the typical imagery of noughts and crosses and the colours black and white that are all over the current covers for this book. However, when I was trying to design a colourful cover it wasn't working with the themes of the book.
I did, however, manage to stay away from the noughts and crosses imagery for which I am very happy with as it is something different to what is already on the market.
I also really like the whispy line design at the bottom of the cover as this is to represent the two main characters - one a nought (and white) and one a cross (and black) going against all rules and falling in love with each other.

Overall I am very happy with the three final outcomes for this project.
